Is there a book you really loved that was subsequently turned into a movie? Did it live up to your expectations? Why or why not?
Many. The first that comes to mind is Ella Enchanted, which they totally butchered. This was my favorite book growing up, and the movie completely ruined it. Literally the only thing in the movie that matched the book were the names of the characters and the concept of the curse, everything else was different - the plot, the characters, even the setting was warped. Such a disappointment. On the other hand, the only adaptations that I think lived up to the book were the Lord of the Rings movies, which were so well done, and to a certain extend the new Narnia movies, which were decent though they could have better. In general, I think Hollywood should really just stay away from doing adaptations, because they're never (except in very rare cases) very good, and seriously, can't they come up with some original ideas instead of leeching off authors?
